Why are QR codes not working?

Did you know that Quick Response codes can sustain damage? If they get slightly disfigured, they can still be decoded because they have error correction features.

However, your QR code may not be working due to several issues. Stay tuned to know why and how to solve it!

Why does my QR code not work?

Size

Scanning failure may be due to its small size. Besides, customers will have a challenge locating it. This leads to crucial information ending up unnoticed and the overall agenda missed. On average, the minimum size should be 2 ✕ 2 inches.

Poor quality

Your pixel QR code could not be working as a result of a poor-quality image. When an image is distorted, it loses its purpose hence it cant be scanned.

Therefore, when creating a Quick Response Code, ensure that it's printed on a clear and sharp display for quick scannability. If you want to place your Quick Response Code on large presentations such as billboards, use EPS or SVG formats to enhance quality.

Wrong placement

Where have you placed your code? The position of a QR code and how it works, go together. This means that if you place your code on a visible section, it will be scannable, but your customers won’t scan it if it is invisible.

Therefore, ensure that the code is at eye level because no one will notice it when it’s too low. Similarly, make it large enough not only to be seen but also to be scannable without errors.

What to do if the QR code is not working on an iPhone?

The latest version of the iPhone (iOS 13) can scan all kinds of Quick Response codes. But in case your QR code is not displaying, add the reader to your Control Center via the following these steps;

  1. Go to Settings, choose Control Center, and select Customize Controls.

  2. Then Swipe down to get to More Controls and reposition the scanner by pressing and holding the three horizontal lines, dragging them to your desired position.

  3. Finally, launch the scanner on the Control Center or through the camera and scan the code.

QR code is not working on an Android

If your Android camera fails to read a Quick Response code, do the following;

  • Press and hold the screen; if the camera app fails to detect the code, press and hold the scanning area and wait for a few seconds to see if it will scan.

  • Enable the scanner manually- Go to the Camera app and select more. Then, proceed to Settings and activate the Google Lens suggestions.

  • Check your camera lens and lighting- it could be the camera lens that could be affecting the QR code scannability and how it works. You can rectify this by wiping off the lens with a soft cloth, increasing the light if you are in a dark place, or ensuring that the phone’s camera isn’t tilted at an angle.
